Sebastian Bauman (died 1803) was a Revolutionary War officer. The collection consists of correspondence, 1775-1795 (mostly 1779-1781), when Bauman was in command of West Point. The 177 items include correspondence with Aaron Burr, Gov. George Clinton, Baron Friedrich von Steuben, Col. John Lamb, Gen. Henry Knox, and others. Letters relate to ordnance matters, disadvantages of the American artillery, serious situation at West Point, lack of clothing and supplies and the resultant hardships, news of victories and defeats, other officers, etc.
