Gilbert Stuart letter to Benjamin West, circa 1776

Dated Monday evening, No. 30 Grace Church St. There are sketches on the letter's interior pages. Gilbert Stuart conveys his destitution and his hopes that Benjamin West can assist him. Stuart writes: "Should Mr. West in his abundant kindness think of ought for me I shall esteem it an obligation which shall bind me forever with gratitude." Gilbert Stuart was, literally, a starving artist, writing to Benjamin West for help.
